If, after a dental crown placement, you still feel a tinge of pain, it is a natural side-effect. Your tooth is probably feeling the effect of all that enamel I took out of it. Haddon Township dentist Fotolia_3843301_XS.jpg

When I place a dental crown on your tooth, I could easily remove every bit of the hard outer layer. Certainly a lot of it will have to go. There will be an increase in sensitivity to friction, pressure and temperature changes. The tooth will tingle and hurt slightly after the dental crown is affixed. This shouldn't last longer than two days, though.

Another post-procedure problem is that the crown may be taller than you want. This would go back to the dental technician in sticking to what I had originally asked for. Now, either I etch off some of the upper parts of the dental crown, or tell the technician to have another go.

The uneasy feeling may also be because of a crown that simply doesn't fit. This means that the inner, hollow part of the dental crown is too deep or too shallow. In addition, the circumference and width may not be right for the bottom part of the tooth root.

If we have a gold dental crown or a gold plus porcelain dental crown, we are able to fix it quite quickly. Gold is a soft metal and we can easily knock it into different shapes. Hence, we can put things right fairly quickly. Pure porcelain crowns, though, won't be that easy. When using these, it is a completely different matter for the dental technician when it comes to making the alterations.

But all that is merely a side show to the real goal. And that is to give you satisfaction. The main thing is you are happy with the final product. We will make sure you do not rise from the chair without feeling 100 percent, as well as looking 100 percent. It is your procedure and you are the one making the big calls. We have a minor role to play, that of giving you the skills and equipment in order that your goals are fulfilled.
