It is hard to believe that coffee is now a recreational drink. Perhaps because of the urban and stylish coffee houses that provide workaholics with their daily buzz. Or maybe it has to do with the long workdays in which people simply have to stay awake and alert. The reasons are plenty but there are several health issues associated with drinking too much of it. Our hearts are strained, it makes us go to the bathroom frequently and it spoils our teeth by discoloration. Brushing is very important. If we don't do it properly, we can be affected by halitosis, which is a glorified term that simply means you've got bad breath. Haddon Township dentist Fotolia_6993427_XS.jpg

Coffee and smoking are the main causes of teeth staining in young people, who should not really be suffering from discoloration. You also get kids who drink too much soda, which cause staining just like coffee and cigarettes. The older you are the more likely you teeth will discolor. You may also have it in your genes.

Don't follow baseballers and chew tobacco. This habit is also a known culprit. The teeth enamel is affected most because of the tar from the tobacco and blackens our teeth like those of hardened coal miners. At least the bad effects are apparent and more people have given up.

Remember sodas? This is a famous experiment. You take a tooth and immerse it in some cola. After a while you will see something happen. The soda will reduce the tooth to nothing in a matter of hours. Although sodas can damage our teeth, I can't say all of us can abstain from these often refreshing drinks. It is better if we can use a straw for sodas. That way, we can bypass the teeth and stop the soda from staining. It's a great concept though not practical with my favorite drinks like green tea and coffee, both taken hot.
